The Critical Care Excellence Center was established to develop an integrated, multidisciplinary team of critical care professionals whose goals are to strengthen the clinical excellence, education, and research in Critical Care Medicine in King Chulalongkorn Hospital.
- Service Quality: To ensure the management and care of critically ill patients meet the highest standards based on evidence and produce outcomes comparable to international healthcare facilities. Continuous monitoring and quality improvement are implemented.
- Education Development in Critical Care: Providing education and training in critical care medicine for both undergraduate and postgraduate medical students, residents, and fellows. This also includes training for nurses, specialized critical care nurses, and other healthcare professionals such as physical therapists, nutritionists, and pharmacists. Academic services, such as organizing scientific conferences and seminars in critical care medicine, are also conducted.
- New Knowledge and Innovation in Critical Care: Promoting systematic research in critical care, including establishing a foundational ecosystem that supports research aimed at improving patient care and treatment outcomes.
Obligation
The Critical Care Excellence Center is a central unit for the promotion, support, and cooperation between different service units, multidisciplinary teams, and other critical care support units under the supervision and support of their executives. It puts emphasis on the development of excellent critical care services for continuous and seamless operations before, during, and after the crisis to ensure proper patient flow. It also aims to develop specialized programs in critical care medicine, promote new bodies of knowledge and innovative critical care practices through research and creation of systematic databases. To become a prototype institute of international quality and ethical standards that comply with the strategies and goals of King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital and the Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University.

Expected results: To provide graduate and postgraduate critical care training for health care professionals.
2.1 To develop critical care curriculums and training programs for graduate and postgraduate medical education.
2.2 To further education and training for highly specialized multidisciplinary teams and units such as CRRT and ECMO.

3.1 To establish a comprehensive data system within Chulalongkorn Hospital for patient care and research. (Subproject 4)

The Critical Care Excellence Center collaborate 13 units including the Medical Intensive Care Unit, Surgical Intensive Care Unit, Gynecology critical care unit and Neurosurgery intensive Care Unit among others. The Critical Care Excellence Center is responsible for the care of around 10,000 patients per year
1. Service: To provide quality care for critical patients before and after admittance to the critical care units and ensure the care to meet international standard.
2. Teaching: To develop training programs at all levels of medical education for physicians, registered nurses, and other medical professionals. One of our outstanding programs is the 1 year kidney transplant fellowship operating since 2016 which is the first and only one in Thailand.
3. Research: To manage data systems for critical care patients in Chulalongkorn Hospital.

Support Activities
- Provide excellent critical care services to ensure continuous, seamless, and comprehensive operations before, during, and after the critical period under a holistic model of professional standards for accurate, safe, rapid, and patient-centered medical care that can satisfy both patients and medical personnel. Provide a prototype approach to critical patient care with national and international quality and ethical standards (in compliance with the Center’s conceptual framework for quality development of critical care service) for other tertiary hospitals.
- Promote critical care instruction for undergraduate medical program, fellowship training program in critical medicine and specialized program in critical care medicine in order to improve the performance of multidisciplinary teams and to ensure organizational excellence and sustainability. It also aims to disseminate this prototype model to other institutions.
- Promote creation of new bodies of knowledge and innovations in critical patient care through research, systematic databases, standard document storage, data integration, data analysis and synthesis. Create appropriate work environment for research whose results can be used to advance proper patient flow management.
- Establish flexible management system as well as suitable, efficient and cost-effective planning under the principle of good governance. To be an organization of learning and betterment of the quality of life of its personnel.

It serves as a repository of knowledge for internationally standardized treatments, aiming to develop comprehensive and effective multidisciplinary care. The center’s personnel specialize in managing complex patients and treat a significant number of critically ill patients. Statistics show that each year, approximately 10,000 critical patients receive treatment at the center.
