The cancer patients being admitted for treatment at the Excellence Chulalongkorn Comprehensive Cancer Center, King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital, are increasing every year. Due to the complexity of cancer disease, the medical treatment required integrated medical support from many areas. The specialized physicians are therefore selected for the most treatment effectiveness.

Obligation

1. Provide comprehensive cancer treatment services based on advanced medical sciences with the cooperation of multidisciplinary teams and the goal of achieving international standards for cancer treatment.
2. Provide training and instructional services for graduate medical program and integrated program for cancer specialists with the goal of becoming an international cancer training center.
3. Conduct cancer research and produce research works that are internationally recognized.
4. Develop innovations or advanced technologies for application to cancer diagnosis, treatment, prognosis, prediction of treatment responses and improvement of the quality of cancer care services.

Mission

1. To provide an international standard of comprehensive cancer treatment services with advanced medical science in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team.

Operations

1. Disease Management
   • Manage and formulate standard operating procedures and operation details, conduct patient assessment, evaluate treatment alternatives for each patient according to their health insurance entitlement, coordinate with related agencies for seamless services and patient flow planning.  Provide advice and consultation to patients and their families on cancer pathology, medication, side effects of cancer treatment, pre- and post-operative care, chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatment. To become a central facility for cancer treatment, cancer care coordination and cancer teleconsultation service.   
2. Tumor Registry
   • Hold working committee meetings to formulate plans, systems, and registry of new patients for systematic compilation and storage of cancer patient data from general information to treatment history, treatment outcomes, and treatment follow ups. Develop a system for data linkage and data transfer from other databases to the Hospital’s central patient database, and data retrieval from the central database and individual clinic databases for prompt, accurate, and up-to-date data which are beneficial to patient treatment and research conducts.
3. Reimbursement
   • Manage and formulate standard operating procedures for reimbursement of cancer expenses. Register and submit supporting data for high-priced treatment requests, for both new and old patients (in case of a renewal request) and revoke reimbursement requests. Formulate systematic operation plans, regulate efficient patient registration and submit complete, accurate, and timely supporting data. File an appeal in the case that the Hospital’s reimbursement request for cancer treatment expenses was rejected.
4. Academic services for medical personnel and the public
   • Manage, plan, and devise the Center’s projects, meetings. Organize trainings and annual workshops to disseminate academic knowledge and cancer treatment progress to physicians and medical personnel both inside and outside the Hospital. Exchange knowledge and promote inter-organizational collaboration at national and international levels.
5. Chula GenePRO Center
   • Provide accurate and prompt cancer genetic screening test services with the use of advanced technologies to ensure user’s maximum benefit and access to the best and the most advanced cancer treatment. Manage resources with efficiency and benevolence. Promote personnel capacity for increased performance proficiency and development.
6. Cellular Immunotherapy Research Unit
   • Conduct research. Develop and produce high quality stem cells that meet the international standard to ensure maximum benefits to patients.

Services

The Excellence Chulalongkorn Comprehensive Cancer Center, King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital, have selected specialized doctors in various fields for the best treatment effectiveness by using high technology such as robotic surgery, radiation, MRI, as well as complete patient care guidance from the beginning to the end of the process. It also provides health promotion during medical treatment and health follow-up at the post-treatment for comprehensive medical care as all patients should be able to have equal access to medical service with the best medical rights.

The Center was also signed the MOU under ‘Sister Institution’ with MD Anderson Cancer Center, the world-class cancer specialization center in Houston, United States of America.  The knowledge exchange is done between the 2 organizations while the academic conference, research, medical services and service development in cooperation with the Ministry of Public Health have succeeded  to create the “cancer patient information network” for more rapid medical service at each hospital.

In addition, the center is developing potential medicine production, divided into 3 main types: 

1. Chemotherapy which helps alleviate the symptoms.              
2. Targeted therapy, which increases treatment effectiveness and reduces side effects
3. Immunotherapy, which helps unlock the hidden cancer cells for more effective immunotherapy.

The Center pays serious attention to the research for better treatment effectiveness.
