Since 1959, King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital has opened its doors to take care of patients suffering from psychiatric problems as one unit of the Department of Internal Medicine. Established in 1973, Department of Psychiatry of King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital was the first medical school in Thailand that instituted in patient unit or psychiatric ward. Until now, the department has continuously been the leading training centers for mental health professions in all academic levels.
Apart from Psychiatry Residency Training, the department has developed up to date curriculum in mental health. Mental health providers graduated from our comprehensive postgraduate courses have been contributed to, in collaboration with other professions, challenging mental health problems. Multidisciplinary team is an essential key to provide best support for people with mental health issue holistically.
Achievements
Assoc. Dr. Solaphat Hemrungrojn has integrated brain wave into game-based treatment for patients with neurocognitive disorder, especially Alzheimer’s disease, aiming to reduce disease progression. Game-based Neuro Feedback Cognitive Training is an innovation using linkage of advanced technology including Brain computer interfaces (BCI), BATCANE and i-ExC Game. This project is a pioneer among Game-based treatment developers worldwide and receives Gold Medal Award from International Tradefaire Ideas-Inventions-New ProductsiENA 2018 from Messe Nurnberg, Germany.

Services
The Department of Psychiatry provides psychiatric services in varying settings including out-patient, in-patient, emergency and consultation-liaison. Moreover, the department also offers mental health examination for both internal and external organizations. With multidisciplinary professions, such as psychiatrist, psychiatric nurse, occupational therapist, psychologist and social worker, the department is responsible for psychiatric patients in physical, emotional and social aspects.
