Forensic DNA testing
Forensic Genetics and Serology Laboratory

The Forensic Genetics and Serology Laboratory, Department of Forensic Medicine, King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital, Thai Red Cross Society/ Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University, provides testing to determine biological relatives such as parents, children, siblings, and extended family. The results can be used as evidence in legal trials.

Adapted for medical use to treat patients who have gone through a bone marrow transplant, by findingn similarities between patients and the donor through DNA fingerprints. The examination result can help assess the patient’s condition after the procedure and then plan for further medical treatment.
Testing criteria and documentation used in genetic DNA testing by the Forensic Genetics and Serology Laboratory, and additional paperwork that is needed (original).
  1. National ID card (Thai citizen) or passport. 
  2. The birth certificate of the child, with the mother’s name on the birth certificate. 
  3.  House registration in the case where the patient is not of legal age (under 20 years old) and does not have a birth certificate.

Additional documents must be brought in the following cases:

  1. In case of no ID card or the name does not match the ID card, birth certificate, or passport, a letter of submission from the Population Registration is required.
  2. If the patient has changed their name or surname, they must bring the document of the name change to show as evidence.

Note : 

  1. Patients undergoing DNA testing must be older than 2 months. 
  2. In cases where the patient is under 20 years of age, the patient’s mother must give consent for the examination. 
  3. The examination testing is considered at the discretion of the service provider.

  1. Paternity testing (Forensic STR): Father, Mother, and Child
    5,000 Baht/Person
  2.  Proof of DNA Paternal relationship (Y-Chromosome STR): Father-Son, Brothers, etc. 12,000 Baht/Person
  3. Proof of DNA Maternal Relationship (Mitochondrial DNA): Mother-Child, Sibling (same mother), etc. 15,000 Baht/Person

The Forensic Toxicology Unit, Department of Forensic Medicine, King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital, provides testing and analysis services for drugs, narcotics, poisons, volatile substances, and heavy metals from various types of biological samples and drug samples. Service recipients can check service details and supporting documents via QR Code.

Note: 

  • In case urgent results are required outside the standard turnaround time, please contact and coordinate with the laboratory before submitting the samples for testing.
  • In case of submitting more than 20 samples at the same time, please contact the laboratory before submission.
  • The laboratory accepts the last samples of the day on Friday or the day before a public holiday no later than 3:00 PM.
