Nuclear medicine is a radiology diagnosis for patients with clinical indications which can trace the abnormality in molecular level, the tiniest structure of the human body. As a result, the doctors are able to locate the earliest stage of the disease and precisely evaluate a treatment plan. 

 

Preparation.

Nuclear medicine diagnosis methods differ depending on the specific organ. The preparation also varies. The patient should ask for information from the staff and therapist and also thoroughly review the instruction paper.

 

Examination Process.

• The radiopharmaceutical for patients has 3 types of administration, 1. Intravenous 2. Oral routes with milk or food 3. Inhalant. The radiopharmaceutical captures the targeted organ which depends on the type of the radiation for example,  I-131 captures Thyroid gland tissue to diagnose and treat Hyperthyroidism and Thyroid cancer.
• An image of the desired area will be processed to observe the location and the clotting amount of the radiation. This will affect diagnosis evaluation. During the process, the therapist is on watch and relatives or parents are allowed to be with the patient if  necessary.
• After the process, the patient should avoid close contact with infants or pregnant women within the first 24 hours to protect them from the somatic effect.
